China-ASEAN Fishery Resources Protection and Development and Utilization Project in Myanmar

On 10th to 14th June of 2019, an expert team consisting of Dr. Yang Yong, president of Guangdong Nutriera Group, Prof. Zhu Xinping, deputy director-general of the Pearl River Fisheries Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences (PRFRI), Prof. Chen Kunci, Prof. Li Kaibin and assistant Prof. Hong Xiaoyou from PRFRI, visited the development of fisheries in Myanmar. This activity belonged to one of the contents of China-ASEAN Maritime Cooperation Project "China-ASEAN fisheries Resources Conservation and Exploitation and Utilization", which aims to in-depth investigation, communication and understanding the status and demand of fisheries development in ASEAN countries, and popularizing Chinese advanced technologies and products to ASEAN countries to help them train technical personnel and improve their technological knowledge, and promoting the rapid development of fishery technology. 

The expert team had visited the Myanmar Fisheries Federation(MFF), University of Yangon, aquatic feed enterprises, farms, aquatic products processing plants, hatcheries and aquatic products trading markets and other institutions by an elaborate arrangement of the Nutriera Myanmar team. They had an in-depth understanding of the fisheries development in Myanmar by investigation and communication with relating institutions and companies. This determined that the follow-up will focus on the related aspects of hatching, aquaculture, aquafeed and aquatic product processing and export, unite with enterprises, universities and research institutes to assist in the high-quality development of fishery in Myanmar.

The China-ASEAN maritime cooperation fund was officially announced in 2011. It's approved by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Finance of China and set up a project. The project of "China-ASEAN Fishery Resources Protection and Development and Utilization" is one of the five projects approved in 2018. The project aims to promote communication and cooperation in Marine Fisheries between China and ASEAN countries, to build a new platform for China-ASEAN fisheries science and technology cooperation through technical training and industrialization demonstration, and to solve the problems in the industrial chain of fishery resources evaluation and multiplication, ecological security, seed industry, breeding, disease, feed, quality safety, cold chain transportation and so on.

Nutriera is the only enterprise of the participating institutions, and undertakes important missions in the project. The company spreads China's advanced fishery technology to different countries by special training and forums to help train technical personnel, enhance their capabilities, and promote the technological advancement of fisheries in these countries.
