On 22nd  June 2018, the seminar on planktonic technology and industrial application was held at the Beijing pilot base by Stated Development & Investment Corporation (SDIC) Microalgae Biotechnology Center. Nutriera experts were invited to attend it and share presentations.

Around 100 people have attended the seminar on site or through remote video, which including Director and Chief Scientist of SDIC Microalgae Biotechnology Center Prof. Hu Qiang, Deputy Director Prof. Miao Wei and researcher Prof. Gong Yingchun of the Institute of Hydrobiology (Chinese Academy of Sciences), President Dr. Yang Yong of Nutriera Group as well as experts and students in doctor or master’s degree from SDIC Microalgae Biotechnology Center and Institute of Hydrobiology.

During the welcome speech, Prof. Hu Qiang pointed out that under the background of the national strong promotion of green recycling economy and the increasing consumption demand for the safety of aquatic products, the application value of microalgae biotechnology-based green farming system integrated solutions has become increasingly prominent. There are huge opportunities in the industry.

Dr. Yang Yong emphasized in his presentation that aquaculture is a real sunrise industry and will provide important food safety protection for the growing population of the world. However, there are still many technical demands in the various stages of the aquatic industry chain. It is necessary for research institutes with strong R&D strength, such as the SMIC Microalgae Biotechnology Center and the Institute of Hydrobiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences to actively participate and jointly solve some common industry problems.

Prof. Hu Qiang made a presentation entitled “Opportunities and Challenges in the Application of Plankton in Aquaculture”. He carried out a detailed analysis of the huge market demand for aquatic microalgae feeds, and innovatively proposed a complete supply mode for the full supply of nutritious mixed bait proceeded from the potential role of microalgae in efficient green recycling aquaculture. This mode will re-examine and analyze the biological basis of existing water bodies at different levels of productivity. Through the integration of key biotechnologies at all levels of productivity, a new type of aquaculture mode with systematic, internal recycling and green health will be established.

Mr. He Zhonghua, Deputy General Manager of Dynaqua Biotechnology Co., Ltd., from Nutriera Group made a presentation called “Application Prospects and Demands of Microalgae in Farm-care Products”. Combining with the actual market situations, he made a concrete analysis for the great value of water farm-care products in the development of aquaculture industry, the application prospect of microalgae in the field of farm-care products and the actual demands for the promotion & application of microalgae. A large number of first-line production information made technical experts get a more comprehensive understanding about product technology.

Prof. Miao Wei of the Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences made a special presentation on ”Exploration and Utilization of Genetic Resources Related to Protozoa Environmental Adaptation”. He shared the latest progress in the study of genetic resources associated with pollutant degradation/attenuation in Tetrahymena and the latest achievements in Ichthyophthirius multifiliis of the genetic resource. Based on the relevance of the application of protozoa and microalgae in aquaculture ecosystems, Prof. Miao Wei encouraged everyone to continuously strengthen cross-domain collaborative research, which aroused strong resonance from the participants.

Prof. Gong Yingchun of the Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences shared a presentation on the theme of "Hazards of Zooplankton and Its Research in Aquaculture Utilization". She gave a comprehensive introduction to the process of contamination in microalgae cultivation, identification of the endangered protozoa in microalgae culture and the study of its occurrence regularity. In addition, she shared the development of harmful algae zooplankton in aquaculture using Poteriiochromanos as an example.

The seminar covered several topics such as the analysis of the aquaculture industry policy, the opportunities for the development of the plankton industry, the latest research results of protozoa and the application of microalgae markets. There were both theoretical explanations and case analysis, which attracted everyone's interest. In the process of sharing the report, the participants actively questioned and interacted on issues of their own concern.

After the report session, Prof. Hu Qiang led everyone to visit the production workshop, pilot plant, large-scale photobioreactors and scientific research laboratories at Microalgae Biotechnology Center. The world-class R&D strength, the global leading production technology as well as the efficient microalgae production capacity of microalgae center made everyone shocked.

Finally, the SDIC Microalgae Center, the Institute of Hydrobiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Nutriera Group have conducted in-depth exchanges on how to strengthen synergies between industry, universities and research institutes. They all agreed that the latest research achievements of planktonic algae and other planktons will be rapidly transformed into first-line productivity and serve the global aquatic industry with advanced technology and cost-effective products in the future.

SDIC Microalgae Biotechnology Center belongs to SDIC Biotechnology Investment Co., Ltd. (referred to as "SDIC Biotechnology").
