On December 24, 2021, "China (Hainan) Carbon Sink Fisheries Green Development Forum" was successfully held in Haikou, Hainan province. It was organized by China Fisheries Association, co-organized by Nutriera Group and hosted by Hubei Fishery Song Culture Association. The forum took advantage of China's Hainan free trade port policy and international location to build a communication platform, more than 200 people including industry leaders, experts and scholars from research institutions, aquaculture-related enterprises and delegation of social organizations gathered in Haikou to actively discuss the new model of sustainable development of aquaculture industry in the context of "low carbon, carbon reduction and carbon sink". Mr. Peng Zhidong, Technical General Manager of Nutriera Group, led the technical team of Dynaqua to attend and gave a speech.

Mr. Zhang Xianliang, former Director General of Fisheries and Fishery Administration, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, said in his speech that in order to achieve the "dual carbon" goal, China must not only innovate technology, but also change production and consumption methods. All works of life must attach great importance to and actively participate in. China's fishery should also take the initiative to plan and take action quickly. "Carbon sink fishery", that is, by harvesting shellfish, algae, filter-feeding fish, crustaceans, etc., removes carbon from the water body, so that carbon can be reused or sequestered, which is beneficial to accelerating the realization of national "carbon peak" and "carbon neutralization”.

Professor Yang Yufeng, PhD supervisor of School of Life Science and Technology of Jinan University, pointed out in his report "The role of macroalgae in the development of low-carbon green industry" that the production and scale of macroalgae cultivation in China is the largest in the world, and that macroalgae plays an important role in environmental restoration and resource conservation in fisheries, and their carbon sequestration and sink enhancement strategy is expected to provide a feasible Chinese solution for global carbon neutral and green fisheries development measures. Taking lobelia as an example, Professor Yang introduced in detail for the 20-year history of research and application of its cultivation and resource environmental effects, and made specific suggestions for the current industrial development.

Prof. Guo Zhiqiang from School of Life Sciences, Hainan University gave a report on "Status and Practice of Hainan Mariculture Tailwater Treatment". The report explained the national aquaculture tailwater treatment policy and focused on the implementation of mariculture tailwater treatment in Hainan Province. Most of the current aquaculture tailwater treatment processes in Hainan take "filtration + aerobic + protein separation system", and several projects that have been put into operation have achieved good results. Prof. Guo also pointed out the key points of the system. On the other hand, to enhance the ability of industrial design. On the other hand, to consider the investment construction and operation costs.

Mr. Peng Zhidong, Technical General Manager of Nutriera Group, gave a presentation on "Highly Efficient Model of Nutritional Animal Protection with the Help of Carbon Neutral". Aquatic animals have a lower meat-to-feed ratio than livestock and poultry, which means they have lower carbon emissions, and the process of carbon sink can reduce the impact on climate change, so carbon neutrality brings a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to aquaculture. The key is to improve the utilization of nutrients and reduce waste emissions through integrated feed technology at the start of culturing process and to continue to decompose and transform emissions through animal protection products and technology at the decomposing process until they are reused by fish and shrimp. The "one fish, one feed, one animal protection" model and its universal application of many practical cases has been fully proved that nutrition and animal protection is the best way to achieve the three goals of environmental protection, health and efficiency.

During the roundtable discussion, the participants discussed and analyzed the new breeding model which related to green and low-carbon. Mr. Peng Zhidong shared Nutriera’s understanding that we must focus on the industrial production of feed itself, research emission reduction strategies on the upstream, midstream and downstream of feed-making process and boldly make technological innovation with the goal of reducing emissions. Under the background of global high concerning of carbon neutrality, China, which accounts for 70% of global aquaculture output, will also show the world its leading role of as a big country.

Roundtable Forum

The China (Hainan) Green Development Forum on carbon sink fisheries was held in conjunction with the industry's most influential 2021 China (Hainan) International Marine Industry Expo. Nutriera Group showed the innovative concept of Nutrition & farm-care and a series of supporting products and technologies at the exhibition. These products can efficiently solve the current farming pain points and help build green aquaculture, which attracted many guests to stop by and inquire.

The China (Hainan) Carbon Sink Fisheries Green Development Forum is another industry event following the first Carbon Neutral and Green Aquaculture Development Forum (FCNAS) held in Zhuhai, Guangdong on Nov. 7-8, 2021. In both events, Nutriera Group actively integrated into the national development strategy and joined hands with industry counterparts to meet new opportunities and challenges, outlining a grand blueprint for healthy aquatic development in the context of carbon neutrality and inspiring our peers to expand their aquatic industry. In the future, Nutriera Group will continue to actively explore and take up the responsibility to help the industry value innovation, and contribute to the early realization of the national dual carbon policy together with industry counterparts.
